A lasting impact on the world

What does legacy mean in life? A legacy is a lasting impact on the world. It’s a gift – valued and treasured – that is passed down through generations. It is part of YOUR history. Cincinnati Museum Center is a pillar that defines our city’s culture. It exists in the collective memories of all of us today and tomorrow. Does your legacy overlap with CMC’s mission to inspire people of all ages to learn more about the world through science, regional history, and educational experiences?

Throughout the past seven years, Cincinnati Museum Center has received over $13.7M in realized planned gifts and an additional $9.8M in new commitments from Legacy Society members. These gifts have supported general museum operations, the development of new exhibits and have contributed significantly to the growth of Cincinnati Museum Center’s endowment. Estate gifts are vital to our long-term sustainability and ensure the museum’s impact on future generations.

The Eckerle Family Legacy

Museums held a special place in both Carol and Bill Eckerle’s hearts, which they made apparent by leaving generous legacy gifts to museums in the community, providing long-term financial stability – including Cincinnati Museum Center. At Cincinnati Museum Center, the Eckerle’s enjoyed immersing themselves in – and furthering their education about – Cincinnati history, in which they took a great deal of pride. In recognition of their legacy commitment of over $6M, we have renamed the Carol and Bill Eckerle Public Landing in their honor.

Dorsey Family in KidSPACE

Anne G. Dorsey’s legacy lives on within KidSPACE

Anne G. Dorsey was a woman of conviction and a tireless advocate for children throughout her 80 years. Anne served many years as Professor of Education and Director of Arlitt Child Development Center at the University of Cincinnati and was a successful author on childhood education. Through her family’s generous support, Anne’s legacy lives on within CMC’s KidSPACE (Kids at Science-Play-Art-Creativity-Exploration). Nestled inside the Children’s Museum, this maker-space stimulates invention and creativity for children ages 3 to 10 and their families, using their hands and minds to learn more about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics). With every masterpiece created, our youngest guests celebrate the legacy of Anne Dorsey. Meanwhile, the philanthropic spirit of Bob and the Dorsey family will have a lasting impact on all children who pass through KidSPACE.
